Lady Mustangs Basketball Wins South Suburban Red Conference Championship
Evergreen Park's win over Reavis put them at 10-2 in conference, clinching a conference championship for the first time since 1989.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL - With their 45-42 victory over Reavis High School on Tuesday night, the Evergreen Park Community High School girls basketball team achieved a feat the program has not seen in 37 years. The victory clinched the South Suburban Red Conference championship, a title most recently won by the Lady Mustangs program in 1989.
"I am very happy for this group of varsity players," said EPCHS girls basketball Head Coach George Shimko. "They bought into our vision of what could be possible when you believe in each other and this team has truly exemplified this idea."
Ella Throndson was the leading scorer for Evergreen Park in the historic win, netting 19 points. Tatum Harris added 12 points, while Grace Kole chipped in six and Addison Mrskos and Jordin Pittman four apiece. Also making key contributions throughout the season have been Shannon Farrell, Yaritza Mendez, Clarissa Robinson and Akai Williams.

"I am very happy for each of them, very happy for Evergreen Park High School and very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to be their head coach," Shimko said.
The conference title is the third in EPCHS girls basketball program history, with the first occurring in 1977.

Heading into their regular season finale Thursday night at Shepard, Evergreen Park sits alone atop the SSC Red with a conference record of 10-2. The Lady Mustangs are 24-6 overall and will begin postseason play in the regional opener scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17 vs. the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences at home.
