Most Holy Redeemer Collecting Donations for Custodian's Slain 14-Year-Old Son

Parishioners are collecting donations to assist a popular maintenance worker whose 14-year-old son was gunned down last week.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- Parishioners at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Evergreen Park are taking up a collection for one of their own. A popular maintenance worker, Dino Saldana, lost his 14-year-old son, Alex, to gun violence last week in Posen. The collection will continue through Aug. 14.

According to news reports, Posen police responded to a shots fired call in the 14600 block of Division Avenue around 11:13 p.m. Aug. 4. When they arrived, officers found Alex Saldana in the street with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Alex lived on the block where he was gunned down., police said. The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has ruled Alex’s death a homicide. A 21-year-old Midlothian man has since been charged with first-degree murder. Miguel A. Flores is currently being held on $1 million bail. Flores is due back in court Aug. 28 in Markham.
