Mustang Athletes Of The Week: Rocco Cipolla, Carmela Woods

EVERGREEN PARK, IL - Rocco Cipolla and Carmela Woods, the captains on the Evergreen Park Community High School cross country team, are co-Mustang Athletes of the Week.

EPCHS Head Cross Country Coach Pat Doran nominated Cipolla and Woods for the award. He said not only are they "top-notch athletes," but excellent leaders as well.

"Rocco is the prime example of a student-athlete and leader," Doran said. "He has come in the top 5 in every meet so far this year, and he has won 2 of them by more than 2 minutes. He never stops working hard, and is a prime example that hard work and perseverance pays off."

Cipolla, a junior, can often be found running through Evergreen Park during all hours of the day or night, Doran added.

"He always has a positive attitude and excels in the classroom as a student. Rocco has all A’s in his classes, and is always eager to learn. He is a great example for all student-athletes of how to be a leader both on and off the court."

Woods, a senior, "has worked hard and done everything that has been asked of her, and more," Doran said.

"Carmela leads by example, understands the meaning of teamwork, and is serious about her responsibility to her teammates on and off the court. She has a can-do attitude and willingness to work hard whether she is cheering for teammates and competitors from the sidelines, or blowing by her competitors on the course."
