Pandemic Cancels Most Holy Redeemer Parish Carnival

Most Holy Redeemer joins the growing list of summer events canceled by the coronavirus pandemic. Parish hopes to squeeze it in late summer.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Most Holy Redeemer in Evergreen Park has called off its summer carnival, traditionally held Father’s Day weekend in June, due to the pandemic. Illinois’s stay-at-home order remains in effect through May 30.

Rev. James Hyland said the parish would reconsider putting the carnival on later in the summer, but that depended on the amusement company’s schedule and the reopening of Illinois. The annual carnival is Most Holy Redeemer’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going to the parish grammar school.

The Most Holy Redeemer Carnival is the latest in a string of much anticipated summer events to be canceled because of coronavirus, including Evergreen Park’s Independence Day parade and fireworks on July 3. Last month St. Catherine of Alexandria called off its parish carnival set to take place the first weekend of June.
