Yesterday, the Teamsters Local 727 ended their strike against Coca-Cola Refreshments after a tentative agreement was reached. The agreement spells out a 3-year contract that enables 319 warehouse and production workers to go back to work.[1]
Patrick Brutus, candidate for Congressman in the 1st Congressional District, would represent many of these workers employed at the Alsip facility. Candidate Brutus is especially inspired to fight alongside this and other Locals throughout the District. “I am very happy for our Union workers and honored to stand with citizens who consult and negotiate fairly to address labor practices and any other changes in working conditions.” Brutus clearly understands how improvements in healthcare, annual wage increases, and employer matched 401K benefit contributions helps to strengthen and sustain our District’s strong working class. “This demonstrates that the ability to collectively bargain that prioritizes real tangible changes that are a positive for workers and de-emphasizes the impact narrative on company profits.”
The 27-day strike, which ended on December 29, 2015, will immediately result in a return to work effective today.
