EVERGREEN PARK, IL — The stirring ring of the bagpipes, the snap of the drums and the echoes of Highland melodies will fill the hall on Saturday, Nov. 23, when the Chicago Stock Yard Kilty hosts its 103rd annual Tartan Ball.

This cherished South Side tradition invites all lovers of Celtic heritage and Highland spirit to gather at American Legion Post 854, 9701 S. Kedzie Ave., Evergreen Park. Doors open at 7 p.m. for an evening of music, dance, and camaraderie as timeless as the tartan.

It’s one thing to hear the Kilty Band in a parade, it’s another thing to hear them in a ballroom. So if you love pipes and drums, or plaid, this event is for you.

This year’s Tartan Ball celebrates over a century of piping and drumming heritage. The evening includes two stirring performances by the Stock Yard Kilty Band—Chicago’s oldest pipe and drum band—alongside traditional Highland and Irish dancers who will grace the floor with jigs, reels, and sword dances that have thrilled for generations.

All are invited to join in country dancing after the performances or simply revel in the music. Traditional Highland fare will be available for purchase, including the ever-favored meat pies, sausage rolls. Drinks are available at the cash bar. With the warm hospitality at American Legion Post 854, it’s a night where everyone, be they a lifelong Scot or a lover of the pipes, will feel right at home.
