Preps in Motion: Evergreen Park Rides Pitching, Defense to First Win
Mustangs stave off Illiana Christian in baseball thriller thanks to work of Ben Modesitt, Dan Cronin and Dillon Knight.
A promising start served as the prelude to a fantastic finish.
Ben Modesitt struck out the first batter in Evergreen Park's 2-1 baseball victory over Illinana Christian on Monday afternoon. He went on to pitch six innings of one-run ball. He struck out three and gained the win on the mound, but not without help.
Evergreen Park's Tom Martin scored in the first off a double by Brian Heisterman to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Illiana Christian scored one run in the top of the fifth to knot the score 1-1.

Then, Evergreen Park pinch-runner Bob McAvoy scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth. With the Mustangs clinging to a 2-1 lead, Dillon Knight turned in the play of the game.
Knight, a center fielder with great range, went back to the fence and robbed an Illiana Christian hitter of a game-tying home run. Evergreen Park's Dan Cronin came on relief in the sixth inning to notch the save. He struck out two as the Mustangs evened their record at 1-1.
