Bridgeview Man Walks Into Neighbor's House, Steals Gun: Police

Bridgeview man swiped gun and ammo he found lying on neighbor's bed, prosecutor said.

BRIDGEVIEW, IL -- A Bridgeview man was arrested after he walked into a neighbor’s house and stole a gun and ammunition, prosecutors said. Robert Davies III, 40, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charges of residential burglary and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Around 7:46 p.m. Aug. 28, Davies walked into a residence in the 8900 block of South Field Drive, the prosecutor said. Davies allegedly stole a silver Ruger and two boxes of ammunition he found lying on the neighbor’s bed. When Davies got home, he showed the gun to his brother, the prosecutor said. His brother told their mom and she called 911.

The prosecutor said police found Davies was standing in the hallway when they arrived. He allegedly walked officers down to his neighbor’s house a few doors away. The neighbor was able to identify the gun. Davies has two prior felony convictions for a 2011 burglary and retail theft in 2014, according to court records.

Davies tried to make a statement, but was advised by the judge and assistant public defender that it would not be in his best interests.

“I didn’t go in the house,” Davies said.
