Injured Deer Shot By Oak Lawn Cops At Christ Medical Center
The large deer shattered its leg crashing through glass entrance at outpatient clinic, reports said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- An injured deer was shot by Oak Lawn police after it had crashed through a glass door at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Police were called to the hospital around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 13 for a report of “animals running at large.” A public safety supervisor informed police that a large deer was trying to break the glass to the entrance of the outpatient clinic. The supervisor said the deer had shattered part of its right leg.
The officers approached the deer, where they were able to see clearly the animal’s right front leg was shattered. Police and the public safety supervisor agreed that the deer should be euthanized. The nursing supervisor was informed of the plan.

When the deer moved to a location away from the building and with a clear background, the officer fired a round from his .45-caliber duty pistol, hitting the deer behind the right shoulder. The deer lunged forward a few feet before falling to the ground. The officer fired a second shot into the deer’s head, which “instantly kept it from suffering” any further.
Police notified the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the deer’s body was taken away. The police report did not specify if the deer was a doe or stag.
