Heroin Found On Man Headed to Rehab: Cops
Crestwood man told the judge he was on his way to rehab when he was stopped for an alleged traffic violation.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A Crestwood man was arrested after Oak Lawn police found heroin in his car during a traffic stop, prosecutors said. Zachary Schroeder, 23, appeared before Judge John Mahoney on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. Schroeder has a pending case for similar drug charge.
Police stopped Schroeder on Jan. 9 for a traffic violation near the 4000 block of Southwest Highway in Hometown. The officer observed a bag with residue, and a cup with a straw in it, the prosecutor said. When Schroeder stepped out of the car, the officer found a rolled up dollar bill and a bag of heroin in his pocket, the prosecutor said.
The assistant public defender told the judge that Schroeder is a graduate of Shepard High School and works three jobs.

Schroeder told the judge that he was on his way to rehab when he was pulled over.
“With dope in your pocket, I don’t think so,” Mahoney said.

Schroeder is being held on a violation of bond and is appear. He was given a $10,000 I-bond for the new charge. Schroeder’s next court date is Jan. 31.
