Roosters Seized In Alleged Cockfighting Ring Up For Adoption
Thirty-one roosters seized from an alleged cockfighting ring are available for adoption at Chicago Animal Care and Control.

CHICAGO, IL — Roosters seized from an alleged cockfighting ring earlier this month on the South Side are looking for forever homes. Chicago Animal Care and Control is assisting in finding home for 31 roosters. It is legal to keep roosters in Chicago. Many city and suburban residents also keep backyard hens so the CACC is making them available for adoption.
Residents alerted Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th) about possible cockfighting in a West Englewood home. More than 100 hens and roosters were found living in unkempt coops and inhumane conditions. The owner of the property has had run-ins with the law before for animal abuse, CBS 2 Chicago reported.
“It was very plain to see that this was not just some everyday chicken coop situation,” Lopez told the TV station. It looked like an abandoned garage that had at least 75 cages.”
