BRIDGEVIEW, IL — A Bridgeview man was arrested after he choked his girlfriend “four or five times 'til she got the point,” prosecutors said. King Temple, 22, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on a felony charge of aggravated domestic battery. Temple was also served with an arrest warrant on an unrelated misdemeanor case of battery.

The prosecutor said Temple and his girlfriend had been in a dating relationship. The two lived in a mobile home with their young child and Temple’s parents. Around 4 a.m. Sept. 29, police responded to a disturbance at the mobile home park at 8800 S. Harlem Ave., Bridgeview. The woman was sitting in her car when officers saw Temple allegedly kicking the side of the vehicle while insulting the woman. After speaking to Temple and girlfriend, the officers said they left.

Later that same day, police were called back to the mobile home park. The woman told police that she and King were arguing when she stepped outside for some air. She was talking to another family member on the phone, when the prosecutor said King started grabbing and hitting her.

King choked her multiple times and stopped when her legs went weak, the prosecutor said. The woman went into the mobile home and grabbed the child. She was sitting in her car, when the prosecutor said King punched her in the face so hard she saw stars. The child was in the back seat. The neighbors, who had called the police before, saw the alleged physical altercation and began to record it on their phones.

King was standing at the top of the porch stairs to the mobile home where the prosecutor said he was yelling at the cops. The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was treated for bruises and a ruptured eardrum. The prosecutor said King admitted to holding the couple’s child while he choked his girlfriend with his other hand.

King allegedly told police that his girlfriend was still able to talk when he was choking her, “but her voice sounded funny.” The prosecutor said King further told police that he “choked her four or five times ‘til she got the point.” King also told police that he’s had to register his hands with police for the past 12 years because they are lethal weapons, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that King is the manager of a fast food restaurant.

“You like to beat up women in front of their children,” Mahoney said.

Bail was set at $250,000. King is due back in court Oct. 28.

“Don’t forget to register those hands,” the judge told King was being led out of the courtroom.
