School District 124 Bids Farewell to Former Students

The first day of school is less than two weeks away for the Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124 (D124) students. As preparations to welcome back the District’s 1800+ students are underway, D124 would like to extend one more big congratulations to the 196 8th grade graduates from Central Middle School’s Class of 2016 slated to walk across the threshold of a high school door this year. This is a stellar group of students: the * denotes National Junior Honor Society members; their talent goes beyond academics. Several students were recognized for being musically astute. Chorus award members were Alivia Aldape and Sinead Doogan for the Most Outstanding Choir Member Kallista Elwood took the National School Choral Award while Dana Stanecki and Angela Bosch landed the Directors Award.

Most Improved Choir Members were Catherine Schaffrath and Julieanne Shannon. Panther Pride went to Morgan Markowicz and Choir Spirit was handed to Shannon Miller.

Harmony could also be heard through students in Band. Those award recipients include, Liam Kantzler for the John Philip Sousa Award, an award that recognizes superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty, and cooperation. Dana Stanecki also received the Directors Award for Band.

The Joe Lee: Southwest Interscholastic Conference (SWIC) Athlete of The Year had two recipients, Coco Dibella and Joe Shannon.

One of the most coveted awards among these is the American Legion Award. This award is only given to one boy and one girl in the graduating classes of elementary school, junior and senior high school, and college. Those who receive a medal must exemplify six qualities that define character: courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service. Those winners were, Kallista Elwood and Anthony Richter. Acknowledged by Honorable Mention were Dana Stanecki and Andrew Corona.
