Special Olympics Skills Competition Planned Sunday At EPCHS
The Special Olympics Illinois Region E basketball skills competition returns to Evergreen Park Community High School on Sunday, Jan. 22.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL – The Special Olympics Illinois Region E basketball skills competition will return to Evergreen Park Community High School on Sunday, Jan. 22.
Local athletes involved with Special Olympics will compete in dribbling, shooting, passing and other drills beginning at 8:45 a.m. Medals will be awarded for every event.
EPCHS has hosted this event for several years under the organization of math teacher Rob Novak. Novak started volunteering for Special Olympics in 1989 when he was a college student at Southern Illinois University.

That experience led to Novak starting this event some years back when he was the faculty sponsor for the Student Government club. Since then, many EPCHS basketball players, National Honor Society students and Service Club members have volunteered.
“The kids really take to it,” Novak said. “It’s always a good experience for them.”
