St. Gianna, OSF-LCMH Candlelight Walk Sheds Light On Domestic Violence

Join St. Gianna, OSF Little Company of Mary and the Southside Domestic Violence Committee Oct. 10 to "Shine A Light On Domestic Violence."

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Join St. Gianna Parish in Evergreen Park for a candlelight walk through the neighborhood bringing awareness to domestic violence Thursday, Oct. 10. October is recognized as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In case of rain, the walk will be rescheduled for Oct. 17.

St. Gianna is teaming up with OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center and the Southside Domestic Violence Outreach Committee, to “Shine the Light On Domestic Violence” The walk steps off at 6:30 p.m., and begins and ends by the statue of Mary in front of OSF LCMH (2850 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park) between 94th Street and 94th Place.

The route proceeds north on 93rd Street, turning west to Francisco Avenue, then south to 95th Street to the Blessed Mother statue.

Participants will include parishioners of nearby Southwest Side parishes and representatives from Saint Xavier University. The Southside Domestic Violence Outreach Committee is a collaborative ministry between a number of Catholic South Side parishes, including St. John Fisher, St. Cajetan, Christ the King, St. Barnabas, St. Christina, St. Catherine of Alexandria and Our Lady at St. Germaine. Prayers will be offered at the start and end of the walk for the victims of domestic violence.
