St. Laurence Seniors Win Chick Evans Scholarships

Three seniors from St. Laurence High School in Burbank recipients of prestigious Western Golf Associations Chick Evans scholarships.

BURBANK, IL -- Three St. Laurence High School seniors will get a full ride to college after being awarded the Western Golf Association’s prestigious Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. Humberto Elizondo , Keath Carter, and Jose Munoz were awarded the scholarship after a rigorous application, recommendation and evaluation process. All three are members of the National Honor Society.

The three utilized a combination of strong academic success and leadership experience that made them ideal candidates for the scholarship. Carter, of Englewood and an alumni of Beasley Academic Center, holds a 3.95 GPA, and is ranked number 31 in his class. He is the school’s student council president.

Munoz, who attended Epiphany Catholic School in Little Village, is ranked number 9 in his classes and has a 4.68 GPA. He is the vice president of the Spanish Club and a band drumline captain. Elizondo, a graduate of Our Lady of the Ridge in Chicago Ridge, holds a 4.79 GPA and a number 7 class ranking. He is a Team of Teams Senior Leader.

“We are extremely proud of Humberto, Keath and Jose for receiving this incredible honor,” said St. Laurence Principal Jim Muting. “These three students have worked incredibly hard during their time at St. Laurence, and all three are model members of our school community. We wish them the best in college and know that they are all bound for great things in the future.”

The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for golf caddies that is renewable for up to four years. Each year, more than 960 deserving caddies across the country attend college on a four-year scholarship from the Evans Scholars Foundation. Selected applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent grades, outstanding character and demonstrated financial need.

Since 1930, more than 10,600 outstanding young men and women have been awarded Evans Scholarships. Most recipients attend one of the 14 universities across the nation where the Evans Scholars Foundation operates a Scholarship House. The scholarship is applicable at several top universities in the Midwest, including the University of Notre Dame, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
