Textile Recycling Drive This Sunday In Evergreen Park
Drop off old towels, linens, rugs, clothing or anything made of cloth at Evergreen Park's textile recycling drive Nov. 10 at Yukich Fields.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- Back by popular demand, the Village of Evergreen Park will be hosting a textile recycling drive from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. All area residents are invited to bring old towels, curtains, linens, rugs, clothing and anything made of cloth to Yukich Fields at 89th Street and Kedzie Avenue. All materials will be recycled by USAgain.
Textile drives are the latest trend in recycling events. Clothing and household textiles currently make-up 4.6 percent of the waste stream, according to Chicago Textile Recycling. Extending the life cycle of textiles can reduce energy and water consumption through the distribution of reclaimed wipers or recycled rags vs. manufactured. Old garments, towels and institutional linens can be transformed to wiping-cloths needed for industrial use, supporting a cleaner, healthier environment. Gently worn clothing can also be reused by being sold wholesale or exported to developing countries.
