Vitamin Shoppe Coming to Evergreen Park

A new Vitamin Shoppe will replace the spot where Theodore's restaurant stood for more than 50 years.

After housing a vacant building for more than six years, there’s activity happening at the southwest corner of 95th Street and Campbell Avenue.

The former home of Theodore's, a restaurant that stood in the village for more than 50 years, will soon host Vitamin Shoppe, according to Mayor James Sexton.

“We’re glad to get a new business at that location,” Sexton said. “Besides the one in The Plaza, we don’t have any other stores that sell strictly vitamins.” There is currently a in 9500 S. Western Ave.

Construction crews began demolishing the building earlier this week. Sexton said the new structure will probably take about six months to complete.

Before financial problems forced the owners of Theodore’s to shut their doors for good, several other tenants rented out the spot, “but none of them seemed to work out quite as well as Theodore’s,” Sexton said.

According to Vitamin Shoppe's website, it's a "specialty retailer and direct marketer of vitamins, minerals, herbs, supplements, sports nutrition and other health and wellness products." The New Jersey-based Vitamin Shoppe opened it’s first store in 1977. Since then, the company has opened up over 500 locations in the country.

Sexton said the proven success of the company and any economic boost that may come along with it is welcome in the village. “They’re national, they’ve got money, they’re liquid,” he said.

The company didn’t have to put up much of a fight for the property, according to Sexton. “No other people were interested in the space.”
