Waste Management Offers At-Your-Door Special Collection Service

Starting April 1, Evergreen Park residents can schedule at-your-door special collection service for electronic waste and hazardous materials

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- Starting April 1, Evergreen Park residents can schedule at-your-service for hard to recycle and dispose of materials, such as electronics and hazardous household materials from the village’s waste collector, Waste Management. Residents don’t even have to go out to the curb. Waste Management will literally pick up materials from your doorstep.

There are no extra fees for the at-your-door electronics and hazardous household materials service. Evergreen Park village board members approved a new contract with Waste Management at their March 5 meeting. The service works out to $1.30 per household per month. Waste Management has already gotten quite a few pickups scheduled already for that first week alone.

The village fields a dozen calls each week from residents asking for a hazardous waste drop-off day or home pickup services. Such services are handled by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and they are expensive. Village spokesman Glenn Pniewski said the service will help motivate residents to do some spring cleaning.

"This service from Waste Management comes just in time," Pniewski said. "The other great thing is that this is 'at your door,' not at the curbside. Residents can literally put these materials on your porch."

There are three ways that residents can schedule a home pickup:
