Heroin Arrest at Gas Station, DUI, Begging: Police Blotter

Forest Park police reports from May 24-June 2 include heroin charges at a gas station, a DUI charge after a fender bender, a license charge after a six-car accident and more.

SUNDAY, JUNE 2

Police Bust Man Doing Heroin at Gas Station

Police charged Michael Boerger, 31, of Villa Park with heroin possession around 10:15 p.m. at Thornton's Gas Station, 601 Harlem Ave. in Forest Park. An officer at the gas station arrested Boerger after he saw him grab a black bag from the back of his car, then dump the drug onto a magazine inside his car and retrieve a spoon, police said. 

Boerger, who is currently on federal probation, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of needles, processed and given a June 27 court date. Police said Boerger had about a gram of the drug. 

FRIDAY, MAY 31

Felony Driving While License Revoked

Police charged Eric Leder, 31, of River Grove with felony driving while license revoked around 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Des Plaines Avenue. Leder, who's license was revoked because of a DUI, was processed and given a June 6 court date, police said. 

Suspended License

Police charged Cesar Almazan, 27, of Summit with driving on a suspended or revoked license after an accident around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Harrison Street. Almazan was processed and given a July 9 court date, police said. 

Warrant: Contempt of Court

Raul Ortiz, 58, of West Chicago was arrested on a warrant for contempt of court near the intersection of Madison Street and Elgin Avenue around 10:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, MAY 25  

Two Men Charged With Heroin Possession

Police charged Eric Jandt, 42, and Jimmy Lopez, 44, of Berwyn with possession of a controlled substance around 6:15 p.m. Police saw Lopez drinking a can of Ice House near the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Garfield Street and found a bag of heroin in his pocket, police said. They also found a bag of heroin in Jandt's pocket. Police said the men each had about a gram of the drug, which tested positive for heroin. They were both charged with possession of a controlled substance, processed and given a June 13 court date. 

DUI Charge in Fender Bender

Police charged Eddie Johnson, 19, of Bellwood with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance and without a license around 11 p.m. in the 400 block of Jackson Street.

Johnson was arrested after he reportedly rear-ended a Mercedes SUV at a red light at the intersection of Jackson and Madison streets after he had been tailgating them for at least a mile, the passenger in the SUV told police. The driver of the SUV got out of his car to check the damage and asked Johnson why he'd been tailgating them, at which point Johnson got out of his car and started yelling at him, police said. 

Johnson, who told police he had been drinking that night, had a blood alcohol content of .224, almost three times the legal limit, police said. He was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance and without a license. He was given a July 23 court date.    

Woman Begging for Money Charged With Disorderly Conduct, Begging in Public Roadway

Jeanne Kapelczak, 26, of Gresham, OR, was arrested for soliciting contributions in the road at the intersection of Harlem Avenue and I-290 around 12:20 p.m.

Kapelczak, whom police had warned against soliciting in the past, was walking in the road with a sign that read, “In need of $$$ for: CTA passes, socks/under garments, medication, food and shelter,” police said.  

She was charged with one count of disorderly conduct-begging/soliciting in a public way.  

FRIDAY, MAY 24

Driving Without a Valid License

John Montalvo, 22, of Aurora was arrested for driving on a suspended or revoked license, driving over a center line and driving an unsafe vehicle after an accident involving six cars around 1 p.m. in the 8300 block of Roosevelt Road. 

Montalvo told police he'd been having problems with the steering wheel in his 2000 Honda and that his car started to "pull to the left" when he hit a truck on Roosevelt Road, police said. 

One person was taken to Loyola Medical Center for treatment after the accident, police said.

Montalvo was processed and given a July 2 court date.
