Drunk Antagonizes Police Outside Doc Ryan's

A drunk man was arrested after he tried to launch himself at police officers and caused a raucous outside Doc Ryan's around 2:30 a.m.

Police said Michael Kern, 23, of Elmhurst, asked the officers what they were doing in the bar and told them to get out and do something else, then assumed a boxing stance before launching at one of the officers and trying to punch him.

As a woman with Kern tried to pull him away, he turned and yelled, "Rape! Rape! Rape!" in the officer's face. When the officer told Kern to walk away, he refused and responded by waving an electronic cigarette in the officer's face, police said.

Kern then told police they couldn't do anything, because his parents are police commissioners in Forest Park and Elmhurst, police said. According to the Elmhurst and Forest Park websites, there are no commissioners with the last name Kern.

When in custody, Kern slammed his pen down on his Miranda Rights form and said he wanted an attorney present because he didn't understand what he was signing. He then said, "No hablas Ingles!"

He was processed for assault and resisting an officer, given an Oct. 15 court date and released on bond.
