Man Takes Own Beer Into Bar, Thefts Reported: Police Blotter

Forest Park police reports, July 20-21

SUNDAY, JULY 21

Suspended License

Police charged Frank Vaia, 23, of Berwyn with driving on a suspended license, and two traffic offenses after he cut off an officer on Harlem Avenue around 1:15 a.m. He was processed, given an Aug. 6 court date and released on bond.

Begging, Soliciting

James Byrd, 57, of Forest Park was arrested for soliciting money on the ramp to I-290 at Harlem Avenue around 9:50 a.m. He was given a local ordinance citation for begging/soliciting and a Sept. 4 court date. 

Window Shattered, GPS Stolen

Someone threw a rock at a car window in the 600 block of Circle Avenue to break in and steal a $300 GPS unit around 1:20 p.m. The estimated cost of damage is $200, police said. 

Car Ransacked, Wallet Stolen

Someone ransacked the inside of a car in the 500 block of Harlem Avenue and stole a wallet around 5 p.m. 

SATURDAY, JULY 20

Marijuana, Suspended License

Karla Bullock, 23, was arrested on a warrant for driving on an expired license and for marijuana possession around 3:15 a.m. in the 7300 block of Circle Avenue. She was given a citation for marijuana possession, processed on the warrant charge and a Sept. 10 court date. 

Theft Attempt

A man reported someone tried to steal his Dodge Caravan in the 400 block of Ferdinand Avenue around 11 a.m. Police said the man found the car with the driver's side front door open and damage to the car's ignition steering lock and column. The man found a cell phone and a lighter in the car, but told police nothing was stolen, police said. 

Car Break-in

Someone broke into a Dodge Grand Caravan in the 400 block of Circle Avenue between 8 p.m. July 19 and 3 p.m. July 20. Nothing was reported stolen. 

Man Mistakes Bar for BYOB Spot

Verdel Young, 37, of Forest Park was arrested for taking his own beer into Short Stop Lounge, then refusing to leave the bartender caught him with his own beer cans. 

Police found two 12-ounce cans of Budweiser in Young's pockets. Young told police he didn't think he did anything wrong and didn't understand why he was being removed from the bar. He was given a local ordinance citation and told not to return to Short Stop Lounge, police said.
