2 Try Making $1200 in Fraudulent Purchases at Walmart, Enlist Kid to Steal Phone

Forest Park police reports, June 22.

Police were called to Walmart on June 22 regarding a retail theft after two people reportedly tried to make more than $1,000 in purchases with a credit card that wasn’t theirs.

Javette E. James, 36, of Broadview, and Tyrese D. Jackson, 35, of Chicago, were stopped by Forest Park police. Store security said James tried to purchase $1,269 in merchandise, but the cashier noticed her name didn’t match the credit card provided.

Police said James said it was her grandmother’s credit card. Inside their car, police found a bag that contained tax returns, a birth certificate, credit cards and a driver’s license. James was charged with driving with a suspended license and was taken to the station to be investigated for credit card fraud.

The victim had been in Rwanda for 11 months on a charity mission, a neighbor said, and was renting her place while away. Jackson was one of the renters, police said.

Jackson was charged with retail theft, because police found a $200 phone in his possession that was reported stolen from Walmart, as well as contributing to the delinquency of a child, as he reportedly told one of the children present to take the phone.
