Bistro Sake Opens on Madison in Forest Park

A new sushi and Japanese restaurant celebrated its soft opening this week in Forest Park, and the owner says it's a "destination place for sushi."

"They need a good, quality sushi place here," owner Paul Gong said. "I drove by and saw this location and thought it would be good."

Bistro Sake, located at 7600 Madison St. (at the intersection of Des Plaines Avenue), opened July 5. It replaces another sushi and Asian restaurant, Yilin.

Gong has worked in the restaurant business for 15 years, and also said his chef, David Wei, has lots of experience in both sushi and Japanese cooking.

The menu features salads, sushi, maki and a variety of dinner and lunch specials. Gong recommended the TieBan Sushi, which features spicy tuna with jalapeno and black tobiko in crispy rice with wasabi sauce.

"It's very hot," he said. "You'll never have had something like this before."

It's open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 9:30 p.m. on Sundays.
