Blunts While Driving, Man Flees Accident

Forest Park police reports, March 22-24.

SUNDAY, MARCH 24

Weed Possession

Dwight S. Newsom, 36, of Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop for failing to wear a seatbelt. Police smelled marijuaa in the car and said Newsom denied having any. A K-9 dog sniffed the front passenger floorboard and found a bag with 2 grams of weed in it. Newsom was given a May 21 court date.

Loud Music

Jeffery D. Jones, 44, of Forest Park, was cited for loud music after someone called police saying he was unable to sleep because of the noise at 1:58 a.m. Police responded twice in the evening to Jones' apartment. He was cited and advised that another complaint would result in a breach of peace arrest.

Blunts on Blunts

Willie L. Whitfield, 35, of Maywood, was charged with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop at Dunlop and Roosevelt for speeding and failure to signal. Police said they smelled marijuana, but the driver and a front-seat passenger denied any knowledge of it. Whitfield, in the back seat, told police he had a blunt after police found 1 gram of weed in his sock. 

Dennis A. Sims, 34, of Bellwood, was charged with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in the 700 block of S. Harlem. Police said they smelled weed, and they found a blunt in the ashtray. He was also cited for failing to wear a seatbelt. 

Man Flees Accident

Vernon Nelson, 66, of Maywood, was charged with driving with a revoked license, driving without insurance and following too closely after a three-car accident in the 8300 block of Roosevelt Road. Police said Nelson left the scene of the accident because his driver's license was revoked and he go scared.
