CTA Jumper Threatens Employee, Car Stolen at Walmart

Forest Park police reports, March 26-28.

THURSDAY, MARCH 28

Car Burglary

Terry L. Smith, 22, of Berwyn, was charged with car burglary, possession of burglary tools and property damage. Police were called to R'Place, 1527 Harlem Avenue about a burglary that just occurred. The victim said a man broke the window of his car and stole a Dell laptop and Canon digital camera. 

The victim chased the offender on foot but he fled in a maroon van. Police later spotted a van matching that description, and the victim identified the driver, Smith, as the offender. Police said they recovered the stolen items and that Smith admitted to stealing the items. He was given an April 4 court date.

Windshield Smashed

Someone smashed the windshield of a 2010 Dodge parked in the North CTA lot at 711 Des Plaines Ave. There was a chunk of concrete on the ground next to the car. 

CTA Jumper Threatens Employee

Gregory D. Powell, 21, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault after police were called to the CTA Green Line stop at 1 S. Harlem Ave. in Forest Park. A CTA employee told police she had seen Powell jump the turnstyle several times in the last few weeks, so when he did it again she tried to stop him. Police said Powell then ran at her, called her a profane name and threatened her. He was given a May 21 court date.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27

Car Stolen at Walmart

A woman shopping at Walmart said her car was stolen from the lot at 7:37 p.m. The car is a white 1994 Chrysler Town and Country minivan. At the time of the report, the car hadn't been found. 

Retail Theft

Robert Burak, 22, of Brookfield, was charged with retail theft after police were called to Kmart, 7630 Roosevelt Road. Store security said Burak took $87.96 in allergy medication and left the store without paying. Burak told police he was stealing the medicine to sell so he could pay for gas. Because of a prior conviction, felony retail theft charges were approved. He was given an April 4 court date. 

TUESDAY, MARCH 26

Weed Possession

Keith A. Miller, 27, of Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop. Police stopped a car for having expired registration and said they smelled marijuana.

The driver didn't have anything on him and was released without charged, but police said they found 2 grams of marijuana on Miller. He also had a warrant for his arrest for contempt of court and was taken into custody.
