Divine Consign Grew From Lack of Places to Re-sell Furniture: Business Spotlight

How did the business come to be?

About five years ago, I was doing some research on places to sell furniture and was disappointed to find there was nowhere to sell it. After realizing lots of people in the area were having the same problem, it struck me that there was clearly a need being unfulfilled—both on the buying and the selling side. 

So I began to research the proposition. Chicago and particularly Oak Park seemed to be perfectly suited for this concept. A year and a half later, I gave it a shot and opened Divine Consign. 

Why did you choose the area that you did? 

Oak Park seemed like the perfect community for this type of business - the personality of this town is a perfect match. People are eco-conscious and community-minded. They like to support local businesses and they appreciate a bargain. They have really supported and accepted me.

What does your business offer?

We offer an always changing selection of new and gently used, high-quality home furnishings. We recently started working with high-end interior design showrooms at the Merchandise Mart and opened our "Mini Mart," where we offer designer showroom inventory at 50-90% off retail price. 

We have several designers on staff as well as a design studio in our showroom - Divine Spaces - where we offer custom upholstery and custom drapery, interior design services, home staging, and more. We are also a distributor for Surya rugs. We have several floor samples for sale in our showroom and can special order any rug in the Surya catalog for up to 50% of retail. Our reasonably priced pick-up and delivery services make the whole process of buying or selling furniture with us hassle-free.

What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?

We have a sister store, Trends, that consigns high-end Men's and Women's clothing and accessories. They are located at 810 North Blvd in Oak Park. www.TrendsOakPark.com.  

What's your most popular product or service? 

Our recent designer furniture warehouse event and the addition of our "Mini Mart" has gotten a lot of people really excited. It is kind of neat that this merchandise that is typically only available to Interior Designers is available to the public, and at prices we can actually afford.
