Ex-River Forest Church Official Accused of Sex Abuse Involving 9-Year-Old Boy
Bail was set Friday at $150,000.

A former official with the First Presbyterian Church of River Forest faces sex abuse charges and accusations he molested a 9-year-old boy.
John Hays, 57, of Chicago, who was the director of congregational life at the church, appeared in a Cook County courtroom on Friday where bail was set at $150,000 on a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. In October 2013, Hays visited the boy at his home, jumped into bed with the child as he fell asleep and fondled him, according to prosecutors.
The boy’s family is in the church congregation. Hays was terminated from his position in May. Hays faces an earlier sex abuse charge for allegations he molested another boy starting in 2003.
