Man Hit With Bottle Trying to Break Up Fight: Police Blotter

Forest Park police reports, Dec. 4 - Dec. 9.

SUNDAY, DEC. 9

Battery

Dwight Lee, 58, of Chicago, was charged with battery after breaking a beer bottle over the head of a customer who was trying to break up a fight at Pines Lobster and Steak House, 7412 W. Harrison St., police said.

Retail Theft

Andree E. Reid, 35, of Chicago ,was charged with retail theft. Police said he attempted to leave Kmart with cologne and cold medicine valued at $85.16 concealed under his coat.

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Mark M. Brown, 40, of Urbana, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended, revoked license after a traffic stop in the 600 block of Harlem Avenue, police said. His car was stopped outside of Thortons, 601 Harlem Ave., for having tinted windows; police charged him for that offense as well.

Burglary

A cash register containing $60 was stolen from the office desk at Forest View Laundromat, 7656 Madison St. Entry to the office was gained by forcing open the the door. Police noted there were visible pry marks on the door and the dead bolt and the door handle were broken.

Theft of Services

Joel Rodriguez, 27, of North Riverside, was charged with theft of services after refusing to pay a $22 cab fare, police said. Police said Rodriguez gave the driver three different wrong addresses and the driver told him that he had to get out of the cab. Rodriguez was apprehended at Harlem Avenue and Dixon Street.

DUI Charge

Samir S. Ali, 20, of Oak Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and other offenses after a traffic stop at Maple Avenue and Madison Street in Oak Park, police said. Police said Ali's car was pulled over after an officer spotted him speeding and driving erratically. He also was charged with driving without a license, driving an uninsured auto and improper lane usage, police said.

FRIDAY, DEC. 7

Criminal Damage to Property

John A. Saldana, 22, of Niles, was charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property he tried to take a hunting knife from Kmart, 7630 Roosevelt Rd., police said. Police said Saldana took a package of razor blades, removed one of them and then proceeded to the sporting goods section where he attempted to remove the plastic packaging to take the item, police said. He wasn't able to steal the knife, police said, but he damaged a couple of items. After officers arrived on the scene and located the suspect, Saldana told them he hadn't taken anything yet.

Retail Theft

Caron A. Contreras, 52, of Riverside, was charged with retail theft after she attempted to take various items from displays and leave Kmart, 7630 Roosevelt Rd., without paying for them, police said. The items were valued at $470, police said.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5

Residential Burglary

A video game system, a Kindle Fire and two television receivers were stolen from a home in the 100 block of Marengo Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry into the home, police said. Estimated loss was in excess of $500.

Retail Theft

Contielle M. Lander, 19, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft after she attempted to leave Ultra Foods, 7520 Roosevelt Rd., with eight cans of baby formula she'd put in her purse, police said. She also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police found in that purse a spoon with the type of residue left over after narcotics had been cooked, police said. The items were valued at $119.92.

Retail Theft

Dorothy A. Jarden, 56, of Maywood, was charged with retail theft after taking $34 worth of items from DEALS, 7709 Roosevelt Rd. and fleeing the scene, police said. An employee of the store provided a description of the car and the license plate to police, who pulled over Jarden on the east bound ramp of the Eisenhower Expy. at Harlem Avenue.

TUESDAY, DEC. 4

Driving While License Revoked

Chavas Nickelson, 39, of Maywood, was charged with aggravated driving while license revoked after a traffic stop in the 600 block of Harlem Avenue for not wearing a seat belt, police said. Police said an officer noticed that Nickelson was not wearing his seat belt as he pulled out of a gas station. Nickelson told the officer he had insurance but did not have a license because it was revoked for a DUI. He told the officer he knew he shouldn't have been driving but he needed to go to his mother's house, police said.
