Men With Heroin Nabbed in Walgreens Parking Lot

Forest Park police reports said the men just purchased needles from Walgreens.

Three men were charged with heroin possession May 2 in the Forest Park Walgreens parking lot after buying needles in the store.

Mazvydas Deltuva, 21, of Willowbrook; Rame Gjukaj, 22, of Westmont; and Matthew W. Vanek, 23, of Hinsdale, were all charged with possession of a controlled substance.

A patron came into Walgreens, 7200 Roosevelt Rd. in Forest Park, and told the manager that there appeared to be people doing drugs in a car in the parking lot.

When police arrived, the men in the car made "furtive movements," and one passenger exited the car. Police found an aluminum can on the ground as well as a baggie of suspect heroin.

Police searched the car and found another baggie with heroin residue, as well as a pack of hypodermic needles that had just been purchased from Walgreens. Eight small baggies with the same design as the other bags of heroin were also found in a cigarette pack.

According to police, Gjukaj said he has been "on and off" heroin for several years, and he had his friends went to the city earlier that day to buy it.

All three men were charged with possession of a controlled substance and were held for a bond hearing May 3.
