Mom Poisons Kids' Apple Juice and Tries to Drug Herself to Death: Cops
She was angry because their dad didn't spend enough time with them, according to authorities. Bail was set Thursday at $1.5 million.

A 29-year-old mother of two poisoned her kids’ apple juice, then drugged herself, because she was angry at the children’s father for not spending time with them, according to police.
Krystle El Khatib of Schiller Park mixed an apple-juice cocktail of crushed benzodiazepine, a powerful anti-anxiety drug, and forced her 9-year-old boy and 4-year-old daughter to drink the juice on Sunday night, according to prosecutors, per an NBC Chicago report.
El Khatib then downed benzodiazepine and the painkiller Norco, the Chicago Tribune reports.

On Saturday, reports the Tribune, she sent a text to the father: “At least if I go to hell, I’ve already been there. The kids go to heaven. Peace from all.”
Her attempt to poison her children was thwarted when the boy, who woke up and vomited several times texted his father Monday morning, police said. The dad arrived at the house and the children were taken to the hospital, according to authorities.

The Tribune reports that hospital officials sent police to check on the mother, who could not be woken up.
On Thursday, El Khatib appeared before a Cook County judge who set her bail at $1.5 million. She’s charged with attempted murder.
