Property Tax Appeals Being Accepted

If you want to file your property tax appeal, now's the time to do so with the Cook County Board of Review.

There are several ways to do that:

• Residents can file online if they have no supporting documents; or
• They can print out the form online and mail it in with supporting documents to: Cook County Board of Review, 118 N. Clark Street, Suite 601, Chicago, IL 60602; or
• Forms also can be dropped off or mail to the Cook County Board of Review office, 1500 Maybrook Dr., Maywood. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
• Fill out the forms in the Proviso Township Office, 4565 W. Harrison St. in Hillside, with help from the Township Assessor's Office and they will file them for you.The township office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. Nov. 20. If you have questions, click here.

UPDATED:Community Forum on Video Gambling Canceled

For those folks who couldn't make Thursday's forum on video gambling, there's another opportunity to make their views known. The next forum wil be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at village hall, 517 Des Plaines Ave.

*Forest Park officials have announced that the Nov. 1 forum has been cancled, but will be rescheduled at a later date.

The village currently prohibits gambling village-wide, but the state has recently passed a law allowing communities to opt in at establishments that sell liquor, i.e., bars and restaurants.

The questions are Forest Park could get additional revenue and what kind of impact they could have on the community. Maywood, River Forest and Oak Park have decided to continue a ban while Berwyn and North Riverside have opted in.

Energy-Efficient Bulbs to Light up Forest Park

Brighter, greener light bulbs will pop up around Forest Park in the not too-distant future.

The Forest Park Review reports that commissioners Monday approved the installation of 1,200 LED bulbs for streetlights, alley lights and traffic lights. To pay for the infrastructure, the village will borrow $1.8 million from Forest Park National Bank to pay for it.

Meade, Inc. will design, install and maintain the lights, which should be installed starting in early December. It should be wrapped up by the end of January or the beginning of February, weather permitting. 

The $1.8 million for the project will be borrowed from Forest Park Bank.

The upgrades are expected to save the village $8,000 the first year and almost $200,000 total over 10 years, the Review reports.

Model of World War II Memorial Comes to Forest Park 

The Forest Park Review reports that a replica of the National World War II Memorial will be on display at the Woodlawn Memorial Park this coming Saturday.

A reception, honoring veterans and their families, will be at 2 p.m. at 7750 W. Cermak Ave.

The room-sized model was used by then-Sen. Bob Dole to present the memorial design to Congress.The memorial, at 2004 17th St., between Constitution and Independence avenues in Washington D.C., opened to the public in 2004.
