Los Pichardo is a Chicago family group lead by Víctor Pichardo, Mexican folk musician with over thirty years of experience. Víctor is also the founder and musical director of the premier Sones de México Ensemble-Chicago. He specializes in Mexican Son, a style of music that represents all of the regions of Mexico as it blends components of the Indigenous, European and African heritage. Victor has passed his tradition to his children Yahví, Zacbé and Gabriella since they were little.
Yahví Pichardo is a music teacher who has traveled through Mexico learning about its diverse musical styles. Zacbé Pichardo is a multi-instrumentalist and another member of Sones de Mexico. Together they play in traditional parties called Fandangos and offer Mexican music concerts in the Chicago area. As educators, Los Pichardo teach in the Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen for Chicago Public Schools as well as The Old Town School of Folk Music and in Cicero. In 2008, Los Pichardo was selected by the Illinois Arts Council to appear at the Illinois Cross Roads, broadcast by PBS.
In 2009, they were invited to Chicago Tonight, hosted by Phil Ponce. Also in 2009, they participated in the Midwest Fiddle Contest at The Old Town School Folk and Roots Festival winning First Place. In the summer of 2010, they played in the World Music Series concert at The Old Town School of Folk Music and in the Viva Chicago Festival.
