Car Stolen at Cemetery, Fake ID Bust: Police Blotter

SATURDAY, JULY 13

Car Stolen at Cemetery

Someone stole a black 2008 Volvo while the owner visited a grave site at Walheim Cemetery, 8311 Roosevelt Rd., around 1:10 p.m. The owner told police he left the car running and unlocked while he went to the grave site and when he returned, the car was gone.

$20 in Change Stolen

 Someone broke into an unlocked car in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue between 10 p.m. July 12 and 8 a.m. July 13 and stole $20 in change, and made a mess of CD cases. 

Car Break-in

A resident found a visor case for a Jeep, containing maps, registration papers and miscellaneous items, in the 500 block of Hannah Avenue. Police contacted the Jeep's owner, who told police someone had stolen the visor case, $4 and some cassette tapes on July 11. 

FRIDAY, JULY 12

Purses Stolen at Cemetery

Someone stole two purses from an unlocked car at Woodlawn Cemetery, 7750 Cermak Rd., while a man, his wife and a relative visited a grave site around 1:30 p.m. One of the purses contained a credit cards, $80, a cell phone and reading glasses. The second purse contained a wallet and $40, police said. 

Bag, Suitcase Stolen

Someone stole a bag containing work and home papers, an ID, keys and a wallet and a suitcase containing clothes from a car in the 100 block of Lathrop Avenue between 11:30 p.m. July 11 and 7:45 a.m. July 12. The suitcase and the bag were found later in the day, police said.

Bikes Stolen

Someone stole two mountain bikes from a garage in the 100 block of Rockford Street between midnight and 8 a.m. 

THURSDAY, JULY 11

Caught With a Fake ID

John Roever, 20, of Wilmette was arrested for using a fake ID to get into O'Leary's, 7522 Madison St., around midnight. Police said officers saw Roever looking nervous in the bar and leave for the bathroom. They followed him to the bathroom, where he was pretending to be using the toilet, police said.

Roever then told police he was only 20. He was given two local ordinance tickets for being under 21 in a bar and misrepresenting his age to get alcohol, police said. He was given a Sept. 4 court date and his ID was taken away.
