Restaurant Crawl offers History, Dining in Forest Park
Local restaurants will serve up appetizers with a side of history along this first-time event, held Sept. 8.

With no shortage of history and local merchants in Forest Park, the Historical Society is combining the two for its first "Dining along Madison Street" restaurant crawl.
The crawl is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, and it will happen rain or shine. It will be in the form of a guided tour that leaves Centuries and Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St., at 1 p.m.
Participants can sample some of Forest Park’s local flavors, including:
- Brown Cow Ice Cream
- Jimmy’s Place
- The Junction Diner
- Shanahan’s/La Maison de Bon bon
- Skrine Chops
"Incorporated in 1907, Forest Park already had a colorful history of drinking and eating establishments that pre-dates to the 1870’s," a Forest Park Chamber of Commerce news release stated. "Each location on our crawl has its own story to tell. This hometown event is great for everyone including families looking for a fun snack or meal together."
The Historical Society of Forest Park is seeking any information about past Forest Park eateries, including La Strada, Homers, Schmitt’s Bakery, Richard’s Tavern, Otto’s, Christina’s, Jerome’s, Gianottis, Olde Town West, Caesars or another one you remember growing up with.
Tickets are $25 for non-members of the Historical Society, $20 for members and a $5 kids discount. Advanced tickets are only are being accepted through Friday, Sept. 6 by calling 708-232-3747 or by emailing forestparkhistory1975@gmail.com.
