Sex Offender Caught After Wallet Theft: Police Blotter

SUNDAY, FEB. 24

Warrent Arrest

Mauro Salvatore, 21, of Oak Park, was arrested on a warrant for a retail theft charge in Villa Park after police were investigating a taxi fare dispute.

Man Caught at Gas Station With Stolen Wallet

Sam Cotton, 49, of Chicago, was charged with theft after trying to use a stolen credit card at a gas station, police said. Police responded to a call from a man whose wallet was taken at Hibachi Grill. 

An officer stopped at the Citgo gas station at 7400 Roosevelt Road, because that's where people who have stolen wallets often go first. The officer said a car at the gas station matched a description police were given.

After retrieving the wallet, police also arrested a passenger in the car who failed to register as a violent offender against youth. Deondre E. Nelson, 29, of Chicago, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender. 

THURSDAY, FEB. 21

Panhandler With Crack Pipe

Kyle D. Hay, 29, of Lockport, was charged with vagrancy and possession of drug equipment after an officer stopped him near Harlem and Interstate 290. According to police reports, an officer saw Hay asking for money from people in cars. Hay was arrested, and when an officer asked if he had anything illegal on him Hay said he had a crack pipe in his pocket. He was given a March 13 court date. 

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 20

Retail Theft

Tamkia L. Thompson, 23, of Downers Grove, was charged with retail theft. Police were called to the Walmart in the 1300 block of Des Plaines Avenue in reference to a shoplifting incident. A store security officer said he saw Thompson conceal various items, worth $46.30 total, in her purse and try to leave without paying.

TUESDAY, FEB. 19 

Music Too Loud

Stephon T. Stapleton, 29, of Forest Park, was cited under a local noise for excessive noise. Police said they pulled over Stapleton at 11:12 a.m. in the 1000 block of Circle Avenue because his music was playing too loudly.
