Street Flutist Told to Leave, Resists Arrest: Police Blotter

Street Flutist Tells Cop, 'I'll be Back' 

A Forest Park flutist was charged with resisting arrest and more following an incident in a parking lot at Thomas and Madison. Police said Steven N. West, 55, of Forest Park, was soliciting money for playing the flute at about 9:30 p.m. When asked to leave, West reportedly told police, “I’ll go, but I’ll be back in an hour.”

One hour later he did return and was issued two citations, for excessive noise and solicitation. Police ordered West to leave, but he refused. He was subsequently charged with resisting arrest.

Weed Possession

Carlos Schubert, 25, of Melrose Park, was charged with the possession of cannabis following a traffic stop in Forest Park. Police stopped the car, and the driver, Michael R. Herr, 26, of Maywood, was cited for a seat belt violation. Police said the car smelled like marijuana, and found some in the pocket of Schubert.

Open Alcohol

Richard Gonzalez, 26, of Chicago, was charged with an open alcohol violation. Police were investigating a retail theft call at USA Beverage, 7200 Madison St., and saw an open bottle of Hennessy in the back seat of Gonzalez’s car.

Booze Stolen

Victor E. Cruz, 23, of Berwyn, was charged with retail theft in connection to that call to USA Beverage. An employee said Cruz tried to steal a  $59 bottle of Grey Goose vodka. Another man took two bottles of Ciroq vodka, but police were unable to find him.

DUI Charge

Timothy Jones, 35, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at 12:22 a.m. in the 300 block of Des Plaines Avenue. Police said Jones was swerving, and after stopping him noticed his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled like alcohol. Jones failed field sobriety tests, police said. He was also charged with improper lane usage, driving without insurance and driving with a suspended license.
