Teen Says He Was "Stupid" for Committing Theft: Police Blotter

SATURDAY, SEPT. 29
Retail Theft
Tyler Joseph Nickson, 18, of Oak Park, was charged with retail theft. Police said he attempted to take two packages of razors from Walmart, 1300 Des Plaines Ave. A security guard at the store attempted to stop him as he tried to flee and a brief altercation ensued but ended when a officer and the guard were able to subdue him. Police said Nickson told an officer he was "stupid" and he took the items because he was tried to save money for his vacation. The items were valued at $36.94.

Residential Burglary
Cash and two rings were stolen when a bedroom safe was pried open and the items were taken from a home in the 1000 block of Hannah Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking a padlock that secured a crawl space in the rear of the house and then removing the caulk around a window pane. The suspect got out of the house by removing a deadbolt lock and door handle from the first floor entrance door. The rings were valued at $300; the amount of cash was not listed in the report.
Open Liquor Violation
Jerry Davis, 58, of Melrose Park, was cited for a local ordinance for having open liquor in public after an officer found him drinking from a container of vodka in the 0-100 block of Harlem Avenue. Davis told the officer he planned to get on a bus and head home with the bottle.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 27
Garage Burglary
A computer, a high-end computer bag and pair of designer sunglasses were stolen from the front seat of a 2010 Toyota Prius parked in the garage of a home in the 800 block of Hannah Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking the lock to the entry door on the south side of the garage. Estimated loss was in excess of $700.
Retail Theft
William Jones, 48, of Maywood was charged with felony retail theft after he placed 12 cans of Enfamil, valued at $179.88, into a bag and attempted to leave Ultra Foods, 7520 Roosevelt Rd., with the items.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 24
Possession of Drug Equipment
Lamar D. Gardner, 28, of Chicago, was charged with possession of drug equipment, driving without insurance and driving on a suspended, revoked license after a traffic stop in the 400 block of Des Plaines Avenue, police said. A metal pipe and a grinder, both used for smoking marijuana were found in his front left and front right pockets during a preliminary custodial search, police said.
