A second season of the Madison Street World Music Concert Series is coming back to Forest Park this summer, with the first show set for July 6.
The opening concert will feature Paulinho Garcia, one of Chicago’s most prominent musicians, and a Brazilian dance party.
Forest Park businesses The Old School Records and Pineapple Dance Studio have teamed up to bring this series to their town. Jodi Gianakopoulos, co-owner of Old School Records, has been in business for 10 years, and Pineapple Dance owner Erika Ochoa has been in business for six. Now they aim to share their love of music with others.
The Madison Street World Music Series was created as a showcase of talent from Chicago’s musician community and presented nine concerts during the second half of 2012.
"It’s about having world class talent right in your backyard," Gianakopoulos said in an email. "In addition to the most traditional forms of performance, the series seeks to redefine the boundaries of what world music can be and to present ensembles that combine world influences, putting them into a modern context."
A concert will be presented on the first Saturday of each month, beginning this July with Garcia. Every show will be held at Pineapple Dance Studio, 7518 W. Madison St. in Forest Park.
