FRANKFORT, IL — "Potentially hateful and concerning comments posted online" spurred an investigation at Lincoln-Way East High School on Monday morning, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.
A school resource officer, who is also a sheriff's deputy, requested assistance investigating the comments at 10:40 a.m.m Monday.
The sheriff's office said deputies tracked down a local juvenile suspect and spoke with them and their family. No charges have been filed at this time, pending further investigation and the collection of additional evidence.
"Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Incidents like this are taken seriously because they affect not only those directly involved, but the overall sense of respect and belonging within our Griffin community. We also ask for your partnership," said Lincoln-Way East High School principal Toriano Griggs. "Please take time to speak with your student about responsible use of social media and the importance of treating others with respect, both in person and online."
Lincoln-Way East High School was never placed on lockdown and there is no threat to the community, police said.
