FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Police Department shared it has received reports of individuals trying to pass counterfeit $50 and $100 bills at local businesses.
"We encourage all business owners, employees, and residents to remain alert when handling cash transactions," the department said on its Facebook.
Some tips for checking currency include looking for watermarks, color-shifting ink, and the feel/texture of the bill.
Police said that if you suspect a counterfeit bill, you should not return it to the individual if possible, avoid handling it excessively, note any suspect information and contact police.
