"Unfortunately, scammers may pose as contractors, utility workers, insurance representatives, or government officials in an attempt to steal money or personal information," the department said.

Frankfort Police gave the following advice:

• Be cautious of anyone going door-to-door offering immediate repairs or cleanup services.
• Never pay the full cost of repairs upfront. Obtain written estimates and verify that contractors are properly licensed and insured before hiring them.
• Do not provide personal, financial, or insurance information to unsolicited callers, visitors, or emails.
• Be wary of anyone demanding payment in cash, by gift card, cryptocurrency, or wire transfer.
• Verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent a utility company or government agency before allowing them onto your property.
• If something seems suspicious or too good to be true, trust your instincts and verify the information before taking action.

Police said that if you think you've been targeted by a scam, or if you see suspicious activity in Frankfort, you should call the department immediately.

"Working together and staying informed will help protect you and our community as we recover. Please share this message with family, friends, and neighbors, especially older adults and those who may be more vulnerable to scams," the department said.
