Thief Posing As Candy Salesman Targets Area Businesses: Frankfort Police

Police advised that if you encounter someone soliciting, do not leave a cash register or money unattended.

FRANKFORT, IL — A man stole cash and a purse after entering a business on Monday purportedly to sell candy for a charity, Frankfort Police said in a news release.

Frankfort Police responded at 8:20 p.m. Monday to Magic Massage, 19989 S. La Grange Road, for a theft.

Police said a man, who appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s, entered the business and said he was selling candy for a charity. While employees were distracted, the man took money and an employee's purse before leaving, according to officials.

"We have discovered that this individual is committing thefts in this same manner in various businesses throughout the Chicagoland area," police said.

Police advised that if you encounter someone soliciting, do not leave a cash register or money unattended. And, make sure to put your personal items in a secure location while at work.

Police said this is an active investigation.
