Frankfort Mom Charged In Toddler's Death Talked About Killing Husband, Other Kids: Report

As Corie Walsh appeared in court Tuesday, a funeral was reportedly held for her 2-year-old son, Barrett.

FRANKFORT, IL — More details were revealed Tuesday during Corie Walsh's court appearance, including allegations that she spoke about killing her other three children and her husband.

Walsh, 40, of Frankfort, is accused of murdering her 2-year-old son, Barrett, also known as "Bear."

NBC Chicago reported that prosecutors said Walsh discussed poisoning her husband and harming her other children.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office said Tuesday that the court granted the office's petition seeking pre-trial detention for Walsh. Walsh will remain in custody and will next appear in court on Sept. 24.

Pre-trial detention was sought as Walsh poses "a specific, real and present threat to her husband and her living three children," court documents stated.

According to court documents, Frankfort Police arrived at the home in the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court at 4:04 p.m. for a call of an injured 2-year-old. Prosecutors said a neighbor had found Barrett hanging from a rafter in the basement and attempted CPR. The same neighbor had also found Corie Walsh in a bathtub upstairs, where she had harmed herself, prosecutors said.

Barrett's funeral was reportedly held Tuesday, and Walsh's mother and husband did not appear in court. NBC reported that Walsh's defense attorneys said the two "have unwavering love and support" for Walsh.

Walsh is represented by the firm of Chicago firm Lyon & Kerr. Founder Andrea Lyon is a Chicago attorney who was on the team representing Casey Anthony, a Florida mother who was found not guilty of the first-degree murder of her daughter in 2011. Lyon is a well-known defense attorney who started her career in the Cook County Public Defender's Office.

Defense attorney Robert Kerr, who works with Lyon, said Walsh was in a state of psychosis during Barrett's death, claiming what the mother is accused of is not first-degree murder and she is not guilty by reason of insanity, CBS reported.

Walsh reportedly told police officers that the 2-year-old was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ," according to court documents.
