FRANKFORT, IL — The Village of Frankfort will celebrate the holiday magic inspired by "It's A Wonderful Life," with its annual Lightning of the Green on Dec. 3.
The Village will celebrate "the kindness, generosity, and community spirit that make Frankfort shine," the Village shared in a news release. The three themes of this year's event are kindness, generosity and hope.
The Lighting of the Green will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Breidert Green.
"The past few months have been difficult for our community, and we've been reminded just how much we need one another. But even in the face of hardship, the strength, compassion, and generosity of the people of Frankfort continue to shine through," said Mayor Keith Ogle. "As we come together for Lighting of the Green, I hope we can find comfort in being together, look ahead with hope, and remember that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference in someone's life. That's what makes Frankfort such a special place. We have always been a community that shows up for one another, and together, we will continue to shine."
Residents are encouraged to think about how they can be someone's light, according to the Village.
The annual event will feature live holiday music from the Hickory Creek Middle School choir, free hot cocoa and cookies, a special light projection on the Grainery Tower, and the lighting of the Green. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also greet families at the event.
Residents can also bring a canned good or nonperishable food item to donate.
"While the tree lighting marks a special moment in the holiday season, the message behind it is one to carry throughout the year. Every kind gesture matters. Every connection counts. And everyone has the power to make someone's world a little brighter," the Village shared.
