Students from Grand Prairie Elementary School recently participated in the Monarch Book Award Program. This is a kids’ choice award program for children in grades kindergarten through three in Illinois.
Sponsored by the Illinois School Library Media Association, twenty books are chosen for the reading list each year. Children can either read the books independently or listen to the books being read to them. If they read or listen to at least six books from the list, they are eligible to vote for their favorite. The votes are tallied at the school and the results are sent to the state.
This year more than 140,000 kindergarten through third grade students voted for their favorite book through this program. The Monarch winner was Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas. The Grand Prairie school winning book was Two Bobbies by Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery.
