Author From Lincoln-Way Releases Latest Crime Drama Novel

Patrick Shanahan's latest book draws from his roots in the south suburbs.

Former Lincoln-Way resident Patrick Shanahan’s latest book connects with his past work and draws from his roots in the south suburbs.

A Girl Named Jane, published by Solstice, tells the story of a girl who is “abandoned by her unmarried teenage mother and as a ward of the state grows up in an orphanage where she bonds with another orphan,” according to a publicity release on the book.

“As an adult she looks for both her birth mother and ‘lost’ sister,” the release said. “Her first love is tragically killed and her second is a violent stalker. She finds a life within the criminal world where she loves The Bull (Terry Kelley) but after a brutal attack by her stalker, finds lasting love at a rehab facility on the island of St. Maarten.”

Shanahan spent much of his life in New Lenox and Mokena, and now makes his home in Macon, MO. He “often incorporates anecdotes from his roots on Chicago’s South Side into his manuscripts,” the release said.

“His articles and short stories have appeared in newsletters, newspapers and national magazines. His writing style is easy to read as he avoids challenging words and flowery narration,” the release said. “His stories are never predictable since he always seems to incorporate twists and turns into each one.”
