Updated: 8:15 p.m. Thursday

The Frankfort Fire Protection District responded to a basement fire at 4:45 p.m. Thursday on the 2200 block of S. Lakeview Estates Boulevard.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, said Battalion Chief Nick Peters. The flames were confined to the basement, as was the damage.

Peters said that although the fire was relatively small in comparison to the size of the house, it did produce a great deal of smoke and heat.

An ambulance was called when an occupant of the house suffered from smoke inhalation. Upon its arrival, the occupant refused care and was not transported from the scene.
