Beecher Teens Jailed on Hate Crime and Gun Charges
A gun was fired and a racial slur was shouted, police said.

A pair of Beecher teens were jailed on hate crime and gun charges.
Jacob Slager, 19, was locked up in the Will County jail Monday afternoon on three counts of committing a hate crime, two counts of the aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm. An unidentified 17-year-old was charged as a juvenile with the same crimes. He was taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
Slager and the other teen were linked to a late Sunday night incident outside a residence on Fir Street.

Witnesses reportedly told police they saw two young men in a red Jeep “drive by the area and display a handgun and fire shots in the air.”
The hate crime charges stem from an unspecified remark shouted by at least one of the teens, said Beecher Police Chief Jeffrey Weissgerber.
