In a step that opens the door to the expansion of the , Village Board members approved Monday the purchase of 1.56 acres southwest of the government offices.

The vacant land is part of a deal with its owner, Charles P. Bruti, and also includes two open lots of about 22 acres in the Prairie Creek Townhomes subdivision. The cost to the village is $8,000.00.

A plan to move the Fall Festival carnvial rides to 1 N. White St., was introduced by Mayor Jim Holland. In previous years, the rides have been located on Breidert Green and the parking lot across from the Grainery.

The new location would be a larger area and would affect fewer residents, Holland said. The carnival operators as well as members of the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce and police and fire departments liked the idea, he added.

"The amusement company reacted right away. 'This is just what we've been looking for,' " Holland said.

The proposal still needs approval by the Fall Festival Committee.

Board amends liquor licenses

The request: Reducing the number of F-3 liquor licenses (convenience store carryouts) from four to two and increasing the number of F-4 licenses (beer and wine carryouts) from one to three.

What it means: The request allows Speedway gas stations at and 11151 W. Lincoln Hwy., to sell beer and wine.

How did it pass? Unanimously (Trustee Todd Morgan was absent).
